- With that +H command in your init string, you must be running
- either a Zoom 14.4PC or 14.4EX modem. Ugg, RPI modems, yuck.. I don't
- suppose you could still return the modem to the store for a non-RPI modem?
- If not, there are a few things you might want to try. First, try to get
- the newest version of the WinRPI code off the Rockwell web site
- (www.tokyo.rockwell.com I believe) and use that. Next, try increasing the
- value of the S10 register. The default is probably 14, try changing that
- to 30, or maybe even all the wya to 255. If that doesn't work, you could
- try using MNP4 error control instead of LAP-M (probably refered to as
- v.42) error control. I'm afraid I don't know the exact command to do this
- for certain, but I think it's \N5, check you manual first though.

- Well, unfortunatly the saying "You get what you pay for" holds
- true for modems most of the time. If you buy the cheapest 14.4 mdoem you
- end up with a cheaply designed product that often will not hold
- connections. You could try contacting Zoom tech support and bitch and
- complain to them. If you complain loud enough they might give you a free
- upgrade to one of their regular non-RPI modems. Otherwise I think you can
- trade in this modem for one of their regular modems for something like $20
- or $25.
